The Art Museum in Lutsk has a unique collection of Western European painting of the 17th–19th centuries for Ukraine, formed mainly from aristocratic collections of Volhynia.
Of particular value is the Spanish Baroque school:
• Francisco de Zurbaran — “Saint Francis”, one of the most famous and valuable exhibits of the museum;
• José de Ribera — a painting attributed to the master, a rare example of Caravaggism in Ukrainian museum collections.
The collection also presents works of Polish painting of the 19th century, in particular works by:
• Jan Matejko,
• Juliusz Kossak,
• Jan Styka,
as well as paintings of the Italian, Flemish, French and German schools, portraits, sacred compositions and landscapes. A separate section consists of works by Ukrainian and Volhynian artists of the 19th–20th centuries.
The significance of the museum:
The Art Museum in Lutsk is one of the most important centers of classical European art in Ukraine and has international cultural value.
