About

The cradle of the UPA in Volyn is located on the territory of the former village of Vovchak, which had a population of up to 200 people. The Ukrainian Insurgent Army was born here. The place where the command structure of the UPA "North" was formed. Then the insurgents dispersed throughout Volyn to fight against the Nazis, and then against the Bolsheviks. The main goal was to protect the population from the occupiers and build a united, independent Ukrainian state. In 1946, with the arrival of Soviet power in Volyn, the village was wiped out. The rebel base was not just destroyed, tractors and bulldozers also roamed the area. All that remained were three monuments that belonged to civilians. All the graves, both civilian and fraternal, were leveled by bulldozers, rye was sown there. For more than 50 post-war years, the Vovchak tract was a field in the middle of an impenetrable forest, 6 km from the village of Revushki. Now, on the site of the cradle of the UPA, there is an open-air museum and a center for patriotic education.
