Torchyn National Historical Museum is the first museum on a voluntary basis in Volyn. The founder, organizer and for many years the permanent director of the museum - Grigory Alexandrovich Gurtovy (1924-2012), museologist, historian and local historian. He devoted his entire life to research work on the history of the Volyn region. The museum was established on March 23, 1957, and officially opened on September 17, 1960.
Torchyn Folk Historical Museum is a center dedicated to preserving the history and cultural heritage of the region. The museum introduces visitors to the past of Torchin and the surrounding villages — from archaeological discoveries and early settlements to exhibits covering the events of the 20th century.
Among the most interesting exhibits are traditional household items and craft tools, elements of folk clothing and embroidery, a collection of historical photographs and documents, as well as materials on the development of education and religious life in Torchin. Separate displays are devoted to the First and Second World Wars.
Of particular value is the memorial section dedicated to Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, who lived in Torchin in the 19th century. The museum preserves a wardrobe containing his personal belongings, household items associated with the writer, and materials telling the story of his life and literary work in Volyn. These exhibits offer visitors a chance to feel the atmosphere of the era and connect with the history of a prominent figure linked to Torchin.
It is a place where the history of the community comes to life and the connection between generations is preserved.
