The Volyn Museum of Local Lore is the main museum of the Volyn region, the largest and oldest of the currently operating museums in Volyn. It was opened on June 16, 1929 in the city of Lutsk as the Volyn Museum.
In 1940, a regional history and local lore museum was organized on the basis of the institution. During World War II, the museum's collection suffered significant losses, but in 1944, immediately after the expulsion of the Nazi invaders from the territories of the Volyn region, the museum resumed its work as the Volyn State History and Local Lore Museum. On August 17, 1985, the Volyn Museum of Local Lore was opened in a new building in the center of Lutsk.
Currently, the Volyn Museum of Local Lore includes six more operating museums.
