About

St. Nicholas Zhydychyn Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Kyivan Rus and, according to some sources, was founded even before the baptism of Rus - in the 9th-10th centuries. In the 17th century, the monastery was considered second in importance after the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Monuments of national importance have been preserved since ancient times: the Metropolitan's Palace, the Nicholas Church and the bell tower. King Danylo Galician and other European monarchs visited the monastery. Prince Mykola Sviatosha, who was the first of the Rus' princes to take monastic vows and become a famous saint, was in charge of the monastery.

Belongs to the Volyn Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
