About

The Catholic cemetery in Olyca is an ancient historical monument, probably founded in the 16th century, around the time of the beginning of the construction of Olyca Castle. The entrance to the territory is decorated with a brick gate.

The main architectural decoration of the cemetery is the Nowowieski chapel, currently preserved in a state of ruins. Its strict Romano-Germanic style distinguishes the building from other sacred monuments in Olyca. According to local legend, the chapel was ordered to be built by the last king of Poland, Stanisław August Poniatowski, as a sign of longing for Princess Nowowieski, who died prematurely. The Nowowieski family owned an estate in the neighboring village of Chemeryn.
